ZOMERJASMIJN of ECHTE JASMIJN

“BRUIDSTRANEN” werden traditioneel ook in een bruidsboeket verwerkt

Jasminum officinale , gewone jasmijn of gewone witte jasmijn of zomerjasmijn is een klimplant met sterk geurende witte bloemen. Vroeger werd de plant hier ook Bruidstranen genoemd. Het hoort bij de olijvenfamilie. De kronkelend groeiende plant komt van oorsprong uit Noord-Iran, Afghanistan, de Kaukasus en Himalaya, Pakistan, India, Nepal en West-China. De Zomerjasmijn bloeit hier in de zomer tot in september met kleine stervormige , sterk geurende witte bloemetjes in trosjes van maximaal 5 stuks. Daarna vormen zich kleine zwarte besjes.  De plant is hier eigenlijk niet echt winterhard. Daarom hoorde het vroeger tot de klassieke kamerplanten.

De bloemetjes zijn eetbaar, maar worden bij sterke verhitting bitter. Dus worden vooral rauw gebruikt in salades, desserts en op taarten. En als geurende garnituur bij hartige gerechten. Als thee worden ze overgoten met water dat net van de kook af is en geeft dat een thee met een honingachtige smaak. Vroeger vaak medisch voorgeschreven bij depressie. Het werkt zeker ontspannend. In China worden gedroogde jasmijnbloemblaadjes aan thee toegevoegd, om die geuriger te maken.

De Gewone Jasmijn bevat in de jonge scheuten en knopen Jasmijn olie. Dit is een Etherische olie, die 65% Benzylacetaat, 15% Linalolie,7,5 % Linalacetaat, 6% Benzylolkohol, 3 % Indol en circa 0,5% Antranilzuur-methylester bevat. Het wordt als geurstof voor onder ander parfum gebruikt.

WINTERJASMIJN

Bloeiende winterjasmijn

De Naaktbloeiende Jasmijn of Winterjasmijn = Jasminum Nudiflorum is vaak een gevel-bedekkende struik met licht groene takjes die als het niet vriest in de winter overdekt is met kleine gele bloempjes. Deze plant komt van oorsprong uit China. De winterjasmijn moet wel beschut van de wind gepoot te worden. Om hem in model te houden snoeien velen deze plant elk voorjaar na de winterbloei in, waarbij vaak de plant tot maar drie uitlopers wordt teruggesnoeid. Tegen een muur is de plant met een raamwerk goed te leiden. Door bijen wordt de plant eigenlijk nooit bezocht.

BOERENJASMIJN

BOERENJASMIJN bloeiend in trosjes geuerende witte bloemen

De Geurende of Boerenjasmijn = Philadelphus Coronarius hoort niet bij dezelfde familie. Dit is een struik tot 300 cm hoog met sterk geurende witte bloemen in mei/juni. Van de Philadelphus zijn vele hybride geteeld, die men hier in vele tuinen aantreft. In Duitsland heet deze plant Valse Jasmijn, waarvan de bloemen voor een homeopathisch middel wordt gebruikt. De bloemen van de boerenjasmijn zijn giftig voor katten. Maar voor bijen, wilde bijen en hommels is het een ideale drachtplant.

Het geslacht Philadelphus omvat in totaal ruim twintig zomergroene struiken. Ze komen in rotsachtige bergregio’s van Oost-Europa tot in de Himalaya, in Oost-Azië. Maar er groeien ook soorten in Amerika. Ze horen tot de familie van de hortensia’s (hydrangeaceae). De boerenjasmijn groeit oorspronkelijk in de Kaukasus en in Zuidoost-Europa.

BOERENJASMIJN

De boerenjasmijn groeit binnen enkele jaren uit tot een ongeveer 3 meter hoge en net zo brede struik. Hoe ouder de boerenjasmijn wordt, hoe breder deze wordt. De lichtbruine tot grijze-groene takken buigen ver naar de zijkant door. De matgroene bladeren zijn eivormig, tot 10 cm lang en hebben een gezaagde rand. Aan de takken zitten ze in paren tegen over elkaar. De herfstkleur is geel. De plant bloeit in mei met sterk geurende trossen vol witte bloemen. Deze zitten aan het einde van de takken bij elkaar. Kenmerkend zijn 4 witte kroonbladeren, markante stuifmeeldraden en de sterke geur, die op de jasmijn lijkt. Door de dag heen wordt de geur steeds sterker.
