HEGGERANK = Bryonia Dioica (Komkommerfamilie)

Heggerank is een algemene tweehuizige klimplant met een dikke, soms zeer grote knolvormige wortelstok. Stengels tot 4 meter lang.

De plant is giftig, maar wordt medicinaal gebruikt. De rode bessen zijn uiterst giftig ( slechts vijftien zijn al dodelijk voor een kind). Rijp in augustus tot oktober. De wortels, die bietachtig zijn, werden vroeger als sterk afdrijvend middel gebruikt. Overdosis geeft ademhalimgsproblemen tot dodelijke verlamming van de luchtwegen toe.
